Cookie Pops!
Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 03:20PM These are some cookie pops we made for my sons kindergarten class. The idea for them began when my daughter decided to make some cookies for her after school snack. She wanted to put sprinkles on them, so she took a piece of the cookie dough and rolled it in a bowl of sprinkles and then baked them (sheer genius). I started thinking how cute they would be if we stuck lollipop sticks in the center of them and made them for snack one day. At last it was our turn to bring snack for school and I knew exactly what we would make. Fortunatelyy these are simple and easy and the kids can get involved too.
So here is how you make them:
First you will need the following:
-1 tube of sugar cookie dough (or more depending on how many kids your baking for)
-1 container of sprinkles or non pareils (pick color to match the occasion)
- popsicle sticks or lollipop sticks
Pour your sprinkles in a bowl
Open cookie dough and score it in 1/2 inch widths. You should get 13-14 pieces from one roll.
Cut one of the 1/2 inch pieces and roll it into a ball. Drop it into the sprinkles and roll it around til it is entirely covered.
Place cookie ball on cookie sheet covered in parchment paper and insert popsicle or lollipop sticks in the center of the ball about half way through ( my six year old loved this part).
Bake only four cookies at a time otherwise you will have a clumped mess (trust me). Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until the edges of the cookie start to brown.
This is what the cookie will look like after it has baked. Allow it to cool completely before removing it from the parchment.
You can serve them in a special container to match the occasion (i.e. fourth of July, Christmas, Birthday, etc.). Pour sugar in the bottom of your decorative container and stick the cookies down in it.
Or you can wrap then individually and tie a ribbon on and give it as a take home gift from a party, etc.
